Meander? )

A young Meander (estimated 12-13 years old) talks with a sailor to be smuggled to the continent of Welen.

Meander was orphaned very young, with no name or identity. I imagine he went through an orphanage or two before living in the streets instead. He understands the Eroqi tongue (not sure which one it is) very well, but cannot speak it as well, and can only read a few words (even then, he's associated that "symbol" with the object, so not "true" reading). What he DOES have is a more-than-photographic memory thanks to untrained telepathy. Hence, when he remembers things, he can cough them back up in the exact same voice, emotion, etc. Ability to do so fades as he forgets, of course, but some memories are strong enough for them to stay vivid... Like the mystery stranger who gave him his name.

Edit - Leaving a note mostly to myself, though you're welcome to ask for details (TW anxiety on those, though):

So last night I went to a work party at a nightclub in SF.

Partying has always been something I've avoided because crowds, loud noises, lots of people, and booze are not on my "I love this" list. But I've been lonely, and need to get out of the house, and figured I'd go. It was a 70's costume party, so I bought some bright accessories at Target and went. I got a few compliments on the outfit, but people who went actually 70's or just extravagent took the stage, and that's fine by me.

At first it wasn't so bad. I was able to chat with a few people one-on-one, or in a group, but once people split out into groups, I didn't really know what to do. Eventually I was just sitting people watching, as is my preference, but multiple times got dragged onto the dance floor by well-meaning people. I'm not much of a dancer, but did my best. Time seemed to be going slowly, though, and by 10PM I wished I had driven so I could go home early. The party ended up going on for two more hours, and by that point I was very much tired, drained, and ready to go home.

Overall ,it definitely wasn't a bad experience -- better to try after all. But crowded, loud, alcohol joints definitely aren't my thing. I much prefer the more interactive insanity of a LARP or D&D game, or a game of bowling, or just a dinner party.

So yeah. In other news, some more prose.

Drunk vampires and a cuddleball )

My muse has run out of steam again on this, though, so I need to think on it more because I will finally get to finish it up.

Originally posted here over a year ago. I usually don't go back to short stories, but I <3 these two, so yeah.

It's gotten pretty long (about 6.2K words), so have some excerpts.

Sexism, yay! )

Tegre is all D: about this journey )

Last but not least, these two are SO BAD at hugging )

So yeah. I need to make a lot of edits here and there, but otherwise, completed a short story, yay.

Now to sleep. If you want the whole thing to read and/or critique, let me know and I'll send it over.

To try and get rid of this shit, I bring you one of my characters having a more miserable time than I am:

TW for mention of sexual assault. Kader makes most people's lives look pleasant. Except maybe Trent's )

I hope if I keep writing this I can give Kader all of my emo and then get over myself. If only it worked that way, hm?

So yesterday I was just minding my own business at work, putting samples into storage, when my supervisor came over and asked me to come with her, because one of the lab directors wanted to do an "evaluation". We have three-month evaluations, but this was early for that -- like, a month early. "Dammit, I wish I had had time to STUDY", I thought as I went out to the front and followed my supervisor, the chief science officer, and the lab director into an office.

"You're not in trouble, so don't be nervous."

It's like they know me already. I relaxed a bit, now mostly just curious. The lab director was holding papers.

"To start off, we really like you."

I replied to that comment with a cautious "Thanks?" I don't know how to take compliments. He continued.

"You're very intelligent," then something else I don't remember, and then "But we feel that you could be doing more for the company than just processing samples."

At THAT point I got nervous again, but cautiously agreed. And that's when he told me basically, that he wanted me to move into the QA department that they were planning to start on. While also taking on some of my supervisor's work to relieve her of some of it. He told me that I already had the writing and communication skills for it, so what did I think?

I said okay, sure, and got congratulated by the chief science officer, which is what mostly gave me a hint that this was more than just a department change. Also, my supervisor asked me as we left "So was this completely out of the left field for you?"

Yes. Yes it was.

Too bad it hasn't stopped my brain from being insane. Trigger for depression, suicidality, anxiety )

In other news OMG ALAMEDA NATURAL GROCERY. You know those overpriced, healthy-crazy places that have hordes of rices and lentils and stuff in bulk and all kinds of weird fruit? Yep, one of those places. I'm in love. It reminds me of my cousin, who is very similar to me in many respects, and we would sometimes go to a natural store much like this one, and so that further gave me fuzzy feelings. As did the fresh produce. And the chocolate. They have Green & Black's which is SO hard to find out here :D Love.

Also work out routine is slowly coming along. Trying to remember to actually work out, joints seem a bit better, though today after barely 15min of swimming my head was pounding (?). Will keep trying.

And finally...

I feel guilty just posting about my life, so have a fake person's! )

On Arebe... )

On Malanee... )

Little blurbs that came to me. Tegre encouraging Kader to go back to doctoring, and then the rewrite of Rose May and Meander's house being burned down. This time, everyone lives (except maybe Tadhg. He may be sort of screwed if someone doesn't pull Nur off). As for why Meander didn't just have Nur teleport them all out -- that would have been pretty tiring for Nur, and he had a feeling the arsonist could be found by someone dedicated enough to search (Almas, I imagine, is out somewhere, otherwise he'd be helping). Meander, being very focused on getting his wife and kids out of the house, didn't want to divert his attention to it, and unfortunately cannot teleport (if he'd been properly trained in time, he'd be actually be better at it than Nur).

Also: that vampire insult came to me and I just HAD to put it somewhere.

And I'm pretty sure Rose May eventually just breaks down into sobbing because my god, if I saw my house burning, I'd do the same thing.

Sleep time.

Edit - I just realized that Rose May and Meander's twins have the most traumatizing babyhood ever. First their house is burned down, then their city is BOMBED. Those kids are going to have such bad PTSD and barely remember WHY.

Edit Again - I just realized without context this may make Rose May seem like a Helpless Woman (TM). For those unfamiliar with my work: Rose May has asthma during the 1800s. Meander was helping her out and getting her out first because he knew she would collapse and die really fas. He was seriously planning to go with her to get their kids, but when he saw the roof was already going, he decided to get her out and just get some severe burns for the sake of all of them surviving.

The NEXT time their house is on fire (... Yes, it happens again. See "traumatizing babyhood for twins"), Rose May gets to the kids faster than Meander. Basically: Meander and Rose May are both BAMFs who will never, ever sleep the night again. >.>

The vampires keep giving me images of them being grinning and mischevious-looking in my head -- and yet I cannot draw well enough to get them out and share them with the world.

Curses.

I would say more, but I'm kind of in a distracted mood tonight, and trying desperately to write and failing, so I may just load a video game for a bit to try and get my brain to settle down from its "O_O LOOK THE INTERNET" mood.

Here have random prose.

Sunday, I got into a car accident. The car I loved, that I got as a graduation gift from my car after I totaled my LAST car, the Prius, my dream car? It is totaled. It is gone, I cleaned it out today. I have random bursts between wanting to cry, feeling mostly normal, and then wanting to Trigger warning: suicide ) Basically, I really loved that car.

So tonight, instead of doing work? I wrote something horrifying. Like, I horrified myself.

Trigger warning for brutal violence/mauling/death )

En... Enjoy I guess? I actually lately find violence to be really unsettling, so I think I triggered MYSELF. Fail.

Think I'm going to go sleep, now. I have nothing to do tomorrow, and I think I need the rest.

Genre: Fantasy
The Troops: Tegre and EilĂs
Status: Complete, but relatively rough
Rating: PG-13 for swearing, a bit of violence
Summary: Everyone needs some extra money. And there are some interesting ways to get it...
Prompt: N/A
Author's Notes: I was talking with [personal profile] raze and Hari about what job Tegre may take once he's back from the civil war. He won't be a soldier again to be sure, but probably some private guard... And then I realized. BOUNCER. Then Hari showed me a picture of a cat while I was writing and I thought that they need a cat. And thus this was born.

The Troops: Nur and Lynette
Status: Complete, but relatively rough
Rating: R for LESBIAN SEX OH NO

Author's Notes: I don't write sex often, and I don't write romance often, so I have no idea what to think about this. Comments very much welcome. Also [personal profile] raze had a part in this happening, because we somehow ended up talking about how hilarious it'd be if a human returned Nur's constant flirting. Like awkward coffee dates and shit. And then this happened. The awkward coffee dates are next. >:]
