Biosphere 4: This time, a guy built it in his garage.
Jan. 8th, 2026 03:33 pmRan across this recently and thought people here might find it interesting. I've been watching a lot of "sealed biosphere" videos on YouTube, recently, where someone takes pond water or dirt and plants and puts them into a terrarium, then never opens the jar. It's kind of interesting to see how species like ostrocods or springtails handle living in isolation.
This is probably the biggest and most complicated set-up I've seen, though. I've got a bit of mixed feelings regarding having a fish or a hermit crab in there... but also he's apparently still going to remove or add species as needed, and they've apparently done well so far.
He's got a website set up about the project, and apparently one day it'll have details about the set-up and live cameras for watching the environments.
