breezeshadowJust a weird little piece I wrote this morning after some funky-ass dreams. Apologies for inaccuracies regarding space travel and all. Did minimal research; will try to brush it up later if I get the muse.

ASTRONAUT: COMMANDER VESELKO JURIC
Launch from Earth was successful and we are on track for a flyby manuever around Venus. Instruments confirmed to be working properly, no significant damage taken during liftoff. FE Geels discovered minor scratching on outer shield but directed A789B1 to patch it successfully. We are on target to reach Venus around April 1 2132.

Slight delays in reaching Venus due to necessary repairs. More scratching found on outer shield and FE Geels recommended shutting off rockets until we could fix them. Successful and had all drones locked down for flyby on April 2 2132. Flyby manuever was successful and we are now onroute to Jupiter with a flyby of Mars expected on May 31 2132.

Odd events happening around the ship. Scratching on outer shield has not recurred but scraping noises reported by FE Geels, Pilot Baumann, and MS Volkov. Have not heard these sounds myself, but have noticed small rips and tears on blankets, papers, and clothing. Small scratches on screens seen this morning. Some blood found in bathroom this morning but FE Geels confirmed she is on BC and not menstruating. Unknown whose blood it is and had MS Volkov collect it for studies.

FE Geels woke up screaming and had clawed her face open. Blankets ripped apart but claims it was not her doing. PS Sewick calmed her down and helped clean her up. Geels is very pale and appears to have lost weight. Have put her on bed rest and Baumann has temporarily taken over her duties. Hearing an odd tapping in the resting quarters. Blankets are sliced perfectly like scissors. Blood analysis not yet ready.

Blood analysis came back and results are strange. Geels' blood but with unknown contamination. Volkov has streaked a dish in hopes of growing something.

Very worried about Geels. She has lost still more weight and now is extremely weak. Wakes up from nightmares and keeps down only half of her food. Fever of 39C. Sweat is tinged with blood. Sewick says possible diagnosis and prognosis are both poor if we do not find out what it is.
Volkov's culture is very strange. Microbes are unusually shaped and sized and devoured blood medium quickly. Suspects it is an unusual parasite but unsure at this time.
Communicating with Earth is difficult as it seems there is damage to the instruments. All of us hear the tapping and scratching now. All system report OK and normal.

Flight Engineer Nia Geels is dead. Will not be able to forget the sight of her. Whole body covered in slick sweat-blood and it looked like her face had collapsed. Evacuated quarters and helping Volkov with cleanup and getting Geels into the laboratory. Sewick is hysterical and reports that during the night, Geels lost weight at a visible rate until blood began leeching from her whole body. Said Geels' face was that of pure pain and horror before it lost internal structure. She has locked herself in one of the bathrooms and is wailing and crying. Baumann has shut off the engines in case we need to turn back.
Culture is completely devoid of blood but Volkov states there is no sign that the microbes died. She and I are very concerned. Both of us took some antibiotics, antiparasitics, and antivirals as a precaution before cleaning quarters. Offered some to Sewick but she refuses to open door.

Payload Specialist Halyna Sewick is thought to be dead. Began shrieking in pain during the night but had barricaded door so we could not get in. Blood began seeping under the door and we heard banging and thrashing. Volkov and I are considering melting open the door.
Geels' body is in horrific state. Almost entirely dissolved with only bones and cartilage remaining. Strangely no blood in sight. Volkov suspects that the microbes have eaten it and refuses to let anyone else in the lab after seeing such horror. All of us taking medication now but Volkov reports she feels a bit strange, and honestly my gut feels a bit sick lately too. Fearing the worst.

Communication with Earth has become impossible. Baumann checked and found the wires entirely eaten through. He went to operate drones but only two are left; the rest are badly damaged, with their hulls almost entirely eaten out and the remaining parts rusted through. Whole ship smells awful now, like death and the bottom of the ocean.
We were finally able to pry open the bathroom but all that remains of Sewick are her bones and cartilage. Bathroom was eerily clean but noisy, like cicadas. We wore hazmat suits but I feel like they were not enough to protect us. Sewick is now in the lab with Geels and I pray for all of our souls.

Mission Specialist Sveta Volkov is dying. High fever and bloody sweat, losing weight rapidly. We are certain that the microbes must be spreading throughout the ship despite our best efforts. Baumann is incoherent; no symptoms yet except madness. Babbling to himself, clutching his head. Do not speak German so unsure what he was saying, but I heard "Gott" often. I am not sure God can help us now.
Volkov supporting herself with a walker to continue doing research. I am trying to get her to rest, but she tells me she knows she is dying. She feels tapping on her bones and hears voices taunting her. Strangely they are taunting her in no Earth language and when she repeated what they are saying, it just sounded like the tapping and buzzing of cicadas. Whole ship is full of tapping now. Volkov says that the microbes now visible with the naked eye and they look like a nightmareish mixture of a beetle and an ancient spike trap. She won't let me enter the lab and instead talks to me through the door.
