breezeshadow: AWESOME TIMES ICON (DuckyWEEEEE)

I need to get into the shower and then off to the doctor's for a blood draw, but woke up with a better idea of how the second part of the Nur story would go, so figured I'd share. I want to keep writing, but there's this thing called WORK that I gotta do. LAME.

The government housing was better than she expected, after the stuffy quarters of the immigration office and the haphazard buildings in the Garanee villages. It was nothing compared to the open space and comfort of the coven -- the rooms were small, the bedrooms barely fitting more than a bed and a small chest of drawers. The living area fit a sofa, small table, and a fireplace, which seemed odd to her considering the kitchen already had a bigger table, a hearth for cooking, and an odd countertop heating plate device. Downstairs, outside of her own living space, she found the baths, shared by the whole complex, though each floor had its own toilets. If it was the human version of a coven, it was still a strange one.

She had been informed by the "landlord" that she would be sharing the "house" with someone else -- a student from Rezten, though the words meant little to Nur. She knew only that this person was a woman, roughly her equivalent in human age. Everything else she had been told was still strange nonsense to her, and in the end, Nur supposed she would find out more about the woman directly.

It was the fifth morning of living there, as Nur was meticulously translating the daily paper and gaining new vocabulary by the sentence, when the door unlocked unexpectantly. The vampire snapped to attention, fighting her instincts to hide or attack or both. The door opened with its characteristic creaks, and as Nur finally decided to rise from the table, a cautious voice called out, "Hello?"

"Hello." Her pronunciation was all wrong, of course, but when Nur walked into the living room, she found that the human did not seem perturbed.

She was short, first of all -- most humans towered over vampires, but this woman was barely above Nur's height, though she was heavyset. Her eyes were a startling green, a colour unfamiliar to the vampire, and made more poignant by the woman's blue and white outfit. Her chestnut hair was done up in a tight bun, and she brought with her two giant bags filled near to bursting. Upon seeing Nur she smiled brightly and curtsied.

"Nur, right?" A touch of embarrassment coloured the woman's face and mind. "Oh I just slaughtered that pronunciation, didn't I."

"Nuu-auhh." She exaggerated the second syllable, then couldn't help but laugh at the human's attempted copy. "Close."

The woman laughed in return. "I'll get it eventually. Rose May Pursa. Much easier name."

"For you, yes." Nur found it difficult to stay tense -- Rose exuded pure friendliness, her posture and mind both at ease. The only trace of uncertainty seemed based on the whole situation, rather than the vampire specifically. She tilted her head curiously. "My Ubiquitous is still poor. I was... 'Reading' the paper."

"Great Mother, there are far less depressing ways to learn Ubiqitous. Did you pick a room already?" At Nur's nod and gesture, Rose smiled. "Good then. I'll take over the other one. Do you have any tea here?"

"Tea?" At the question, Rose's mind then projected the image of a mug steaming with a rich red-brown liquid, and Nur let out an excited chirp. "Shāy! Yes, I have some. You want?"

"Please. It's been a long morning. Shay, you said? Is that... Vampiric?" Rose tilted her head, brow furrowing. "I don't know what you call your language."

"ʻArabī."

I've never written about Nur and Rose May when they first meet, but needless to say, I imagine them as becoming instant BFFs. Also I hope my writing fails (instead instead of instant? Really brain?) clear up by the time I'm at work.

Tschuess.
